During my residency year I was immersed in a thought-provoking learning community. The links below provide a summary of my learning experiences and the final products from my masters coursework.
HTH 200 Core Values and FoundationsThis class served as a crash course in the ways of HTH and the GSE. Course activities included hands-on experiences, reading and discussion of scholarly articles, personal reflection, interviewing, and writing. We participated in the HTH Odyssey, an introductory institute for all new HTH staff members, and attended class sessions with fellow GSE students. The course culminated with an in-depth presentation of learning.

HTH 205 Equity, Diversity, and Design PrinciplesIn this course we explored the implications of race and culture - particularly the issues around white privilege. As students, we were asked to reflect on our personal experiences with equity and diversity in schools, compare and research various models, and discuss our understanding of the political and social context surrounding equity in public schools today.

HTH 210 Design & Leadership For Deeper LearningThis course focused on deepening our understanding of instructional design. Throughout the course we worked on designing an integrated project, with careful consideration given to project design, assessment, student ownership, and exhibition.

This course was designed to draw the connection between and among innovative school leadership, culture, deeper learning, and equity. We explored concrete observable behaviors, processes, and conditions that support individual, collective and organizational capacity to innovate and change.

This course examined the multiple levers that school leaders utilize to support adult learning in their schools. We critically analyzed the learning system at our school sites and investigated the art of coaching, practiced strategies for one-on-one mentoring and support of teachers.

This course provided insight into both the political aspects of school finance and the practical application of best practices to managing school budgets. We looked at school funding trends in the U.S., issues of equity and adequacy, connections between school funding and residential segregation, the role that the courts have played in changing how schools are funded along with the role of the educational leader in planning, implementing, and evaluating school budgets.
|
This course centered around U.S. Constitutional laws and amendments. We looked at how the amendments have been applied to issues and situations in public schools over the years and we had a chance to play different roles in mock trial scenarios.

This series of Inquiry into Practice courses supported and guided our action research projects over the course of the year. In 300, we focused on identifying our research topic and conducting a literature review and setting description. In 305, we developed our methods and data collection sections. In the final session we analyzed our findings, wrote our conclusion, and finished our research paper. In addition to our thesis paper, we prototyped a product and presentation in relation to our findings.
